About
This live online course is designed for vets and registered veterinary nurses who are interested in incorporating herbal medicine into their daily practice as well as those looking for more knowledge to be able to educate their clients safely. We combine traditional uses for plant based medicine with science and research. When writing this course we felt it was important to look at the plants and their properties but also the pharmacology and science behind why they have the effects they do. Over the course of four days we use various teaching techniques to ensure all delegates feel comfortable with the knowledge they have gained. This includes lectures, case discussions, organoleptic sampling, practical sessions, and plenty of general discussion. This course is very much a practical and hands on course. We feel that it is important to see, smell and taste the herbs to fully understand and appreciate them. To ensure that online delegates are still getting as much of the hands-on aspects we will send delegates a package of herb samples for tasting and for practical sessions for you to do at home. This package is included in the cost of the course and will contain: 1) 20+ samples of tinctures 2) Samples of dried herbs 3) Oils and waxes for practical sessions 4) Teas for practical sessions 5) 2 essential oil samples Syllabus: *The History of Herbal Medicine (specifically, the Western approach) *How Herbs Work: when and why to use herbal medicine. This will include several practical sessions throughout the course. *Phytochemistry/Pharmacology *Assessing the patient *Clinical Considerations *Safety/Adverse Events (including drug interactions) *Sourcing Herbs *Formulating Prescriptions *Legalities (including VMD and RCVS stances) This course is accredited with Entia (www.entia.org.uk) This course can be taken as a stand-alone experience (24 hours of CPD) or can be used as part of the bespoke award in Integrated Care in Veterinary Practice
